Why UK Nightclub Attendance Has Dropped By 34 Million?

Once upon a time, there was a girl who loved the party scene. She loved the roaring atmosphere, the flashing lights, and the animated crowds in hot and stuffy nightclubs. That girl was me, about five years ago. My lifestyle has changed quite considerably since then and so has London’s late night music scene. Perhaps, as I have grown older and wiser, my taste for the simple things in life has matured. Now, a lunch or dinner date with a friend in a cozy venue, where we can comfortably catch-up with decent food and wine to keep the conversation flowing, is much more appealing.

As a music lover, I have always enjoyed an open mic night. I used to attend Pigalle’s night spot regularly. Back in the day, it was a favourite haunt of emerging artists like Jessie J and Alexandra Burke. Live music venues have become a phenomenal trend in the entertainment industry. This is no surprise, as they offer a dynamic and hospitable customer experience. One man who we can thank for the revival of London’s late night music scene is Alan Lorrimer, a serial restaurateur. He successfully launched Tiger Lil’s; the dedicated blues live music venue, Charlotte St.Blues, Guanabara; and his latest venture, The Piano Works in Farringdon.

I was invited, plus one, for a ‘boozy brunch’ at The Piano Works. How could I refuse such an offer? So, I reserved a table for 12 p.m. on a Sunday afternoon. I wanted to visit The Piano Works on a quieter and more relaxing day. The venue, however, became quite busy starting at 3 p.m. I was content with my brunch choice, having ordered a vegetarian meal that was more than enough for one person.

The first thing I noticed about the venue was the ample space that featured a stage on which two pianists/vocalists perform. The music was instantly uplifting. Neatly arranged tables and chairs surrounded the stage, and the location of the bar was at the opposite end of the venue. Aaron, our table host for the afternoon, escorted us to our seats. He was attentive and ensured our champagne glasses were full of bubbly from the get-go. He mentioned that ‘boozy brunch’ weekends at The Piano Works attract hen and stag party bookings predominantly. I can understand why as the venue is spacious enough to accommodate big bookings. What is more, one can enjoy bottomless Prosecco over light-hearted entertainment by two pianists/vocalists who play songs that are requested by the audience.

I asked for Ed Shereen’s ‘Shape of You’ for the fun of it, but it was not very original of me, hence why I do not recall the vocalists performing the song, unless they did once we left. The Piano Works offers a fun vibe, pleasant staff (including the manager, Reduan), and a non-stifling environment that allows for a bit of twerking without bumping into someone else—if that’s your preferred style, of course. I hope to revisit this quaint venue soon to take advantage of the boozy brunch once again, and so should you. I have a unique promo code. Please quote SocialStyle when you book Sunday brunch at The Piano Works between 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. or 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. You will receive complimentary, bottomless Processo with the above code.

Alan Lorrimer is welcoming a growing number of spending customers through the doors of The Piano Works especially at a time when, according to a recent report on the live music scene, “UK nightclub attendance has dropped by 34 million in the last five years and revenues have suffered a 21% decline. The top three issues that are destroying the industry are high admission charges, expensive drinks and overcrowding.”

Having launched and run more than 18 new startup bar and restaurant concepts, Alan Lorrimer understands what it takes to run a successful business. After all, it is not what you know but how you apply your knowledge and experience. “I am often asked what it’s like to be in the restaurant business to which I say, I am not in the restaurant business, I am in the fashion business hoping to predict the next trend. Getting the formula right at The Piano Works has been exactly that.” Says Alan Lorrimer.

“We also run an Emerging Talent night, Repertoire Training Academy, a Can’t Sing Choir, Brazilian Sunday request night and cocktail master classes,” he adds.
